1Not worth buying  May 25, 2011 By Joyce B.
The authors seem clueless about the topic of the book. They don't have career counseling degrees nor are they academics, and it shows. They don't know what content is important for a cv, or how to format one. Some cv examples listed (cum laude) after the PhD!!! This is an honor for undergraduate degrees!! This is just one example of the authors' ignorance about the subject.

Not only do the samples lack substance, they are poorly organized. The samples do not contain the information that should be in an academic resume.

As other reviewers have said, don't waste your money. It is true that there are many examples on the internet, it is also true that many of these are just as lousy as those in this book. It's hard to find a good book on the topic.

1A total waste of time, paper and money  Jan 06, 2011 By Sidd Artha "Raider"
The book is written probably by someone with not so much experience in the field. The accurate data can also be found on the Internet with a simple search in your favourite search engine, and if you can read that surely you can also give that search a try. And the rest is just fluf. If you do happen to have it in your local library do try to read the electronic CV advices. They are hilarious, but not that good as to pay for the whole thing.

5Useful tool  Sep 25, 2009 By D. Davis
This book was a very useful tool for preparing my CV. It helped guide me through the process of reviewing my experience and skills so that I was able to create a CV that really describes my character and I feel will make me stand out. Well worth the price of the book!

4So far so good  Jul 30, 2011 By Desiderata
I haven't finished going through the entire book, but it has been helpful in getting me to think creatively about my past experiences and how to best present them in my job search.

1Not impressed...  May 17, 2011 By D_Fields
I was eagerly awaiting my order of this book, as I am applying to PhD programs in the fall and have long been searching for an effective way to vamp up my CV. This book is pretty much useless. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, except for maybe one thing that I'm not even sure is that useful. All it has is "exercises" that are pretty much useless, too. How the hell is writing how I'm feeling about writing my CV going to make it better? All of the directions are incredibly vague and the samples are lacking. Actually, I feel like the samples are more in the lines of piss-poor. I have found better samples on the internet. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more on a better book.
